Protecting our community from flood risks
We provide real-time river level monitoring and community advice to enhance flood preparedness in the Bampton Parish and River Lowther Catchment area in The Lake District, Cumbria
We are working in partnership with Cumbria Connect, The Environment Agency, Lake District National Park Authority, United Utilities and Westmorland & Furness Council

Community Flood Resilience in Action
Further to our recent Community Flooding Questionnaire, our group is now undertaking various new projects such as installing river depth gauges, early warning 'livestream cameras and feasibility studies into automatice flood gate systems along with secondary measurements and analysis of long term flood data and real time flood data - all to deliver accurate flood risk resilience. Working closely with local authorities and landowners, we foster community awareness and resilience through shared knowledge and ongoing engagement.

Key Features of Our Flood Resilience Efforts
Bampton Flood Resilience Group focuses on flood monitoring, public engagement, and strategic partnerships alongside all active agri-environmental schemes in the catchment area.

Real-Time Monitoring
Utilising river depth gauges and CCTV cameras, we track flood risks continuously for timely alerts to the community and for the community to access when in need.

Community Consultations
Regular meetings held to discuss flood preparedness and collect local feedback.

Collaborative Partnerships
Engaging with Cumbria Connect, P2KArc, Westmorland & Furness Council, Bampton Parish Council, The Environment Agency, United Utilities, Lake District National Park Authority and landowners and their agents for coordinated flood mitigation.

Environmental Stewardship
Supporting rewilding and rewetting initiatives to enhance natural flood buffering.

Bampton Parish
Although our community is centred on Bampton Parish including all its many settlements, our monitoring and measuring takes in the wider Lowther Valley rivers catchment area including the Haweswater Beck, Howes Beck, Swindale Beck, Cawdale Beck, Gill Beck and Sleddale Beck.
